DCI is over and it was a crazy finish. There was a good amount of conterversy with the final outcome. (For an explanation of the final results, read here). The level of the performances were absolutely amazing. I have to admit that I have a new respect for the drum corp activity. Congrats to the Concord Blue Devils for their 17th DCI World Class Championship. Now that DCI is over, the beginning of school is just around the corner. Check out the weekly reads below. (more…)

It is DCI Finals week and this year, I will be attending as Percussion Product Manager for Yamaha Corporation of America. I never had opportunity to march with a DCI corp, but I did have a lot of friends and students who have marched. This summer, I have had the opportunity to visit groups across the US and the level of these groups is phenomenal. Good luck to everyone performing this week and may the best corp win. Below are some articles to check out. Please keep me posted if there is an article I should share. Cheers! (more…)

I am writing this post today instead of my typical Percussion Education Weekly Reads. I have been on the road a lot the past couple of weeks. It is an adjustment for me and my family and we are learning how to make it work. Being on a plane or in the gym, I get to read more and I have read some great books this year. This week’s post is going to feature some of these books. It is a collection of non-fiction, business and fiction books. I hope you have the opportunity to pick up some of these and read them. For a complete list of the books I am reading/have read, check out my GoodReads profile. (more…)

I spent the weekend with my family, including watching the kids ride in the local July 4th parade, swimming, visiting family and watching fireworks. The summer is going fast! Enjoy every minute. June is almost over and the July 4th weekend is coming up. I always look forward this weekend because it is a time to spend time with my family and watch fireworks. This week, I had the opportunity to see a DCI show in a theater due to the rain and flash flood warnings. It was a first for many of us. Although it was fun to see, without the front ensemble, it was disappointing. Have a great week!
